NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo is more than just a great basketball player; he’s a member of the community.
The Greek Freak partnered with the Milwaukee Bucks and Pick ‘n Save to donate upwards of $50,000 worth of food to charities in the Milwaukee area for Thanksgiving.
“Growing up with my family we did not have much and I know how important it is to give back,” Giannis said.
“There were a lot of organizations [in Greece] that helped me and my family.” Like many other immigrants to Greece, his parents struggled to find work. Antetokounmpo and his older brother, Thanasis, helped out by hawking items such as watches, bags and sunglasses.
Antetokounmpo, who grew up in the Athens neighborhood of Sepolia, put on his serving outfit and helped distribute 27,000 meals to people in need.
